Canada’s Bishops Gather in Montreal for Annual Plenary Assembly

The Catholic bishops of Canada are gathering in Montreal from September 21 to 25, 2026, for the annual Plenary Assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB). The week provides an opportunity for prayer, dialogue and discernment on pastoral priorities and the Church’s mission across the country.

Discussions include Indigenous healing and reconciliation, Catholic health care, ministry to migrants and refugees, and family and life issues. Prayer and daily celebrations of the Eucharist are central to the gathering, including a Holy Hour for victims and survivors of sexual abuse.

At the opening of the assembly, the bishops approved a letter to Pope Leo XIV, asking for his prayers as they discern how best to respond to the needs of the Church in Canada.
